Technology for tracking your belongings has developed to offer an eclectic range of options. We see a host of new products that combine different tracking and connectivity technologies including the GPS- global positioning system, fog computing, biometric sensors and the internet. These products have found way into uses like tracking delivery trucks and product dispatches etc, travel bags, smartphones, and even livestock!
Tracking Devices
Travel is when a lot of people tend to lose their belongings. The good news is, for a family or individual on vacation, there are now many new trackers for finding lost belongings.
The Ping GPS company makes tracking devices that use Bluetooth with GPS and cellular network bringing an almost unlimited range workable across continents. Ping’s new launch in tracking device can help find car keys, missing luggage, mobile phones etc and so works as an excellent carry-along for vacations.
Tracking Apps & Bluetooth Technology
Many of you may be aware of the ‘Find my phone’ app that helps track an iPhone device. Tracking now looks to new areas of use. You can track your keys, sunglasses and even pets when travelling! A coin-shaped device called TrackR pixel can be attached to belongings and functions by pairing to a smartphone app with Bluetooth range of nearly 100 feet.
What else? Glasses called ‘Find’ by Portland-based Fetch Eyewear come embedded with Bluetooth tracking. Not that glass tracking is new, only now the tracking devices are super-small and don’t add bulkiness to the frame!
Offline Tracking
Airlines and companies already use tracking solutions like WorldTracer by Okoban to tag luggage with unique identification code that is registered online. The shoe company- ‘Under Armour’ has introduced the ‘HOVR phantom’ shoe that has an in-built chip to monitor distance covered, length of steps taken and accelerometer.
Will this tracking feature soon combine with online connectivity to allow us to monitor foot movement of children or adults and map their current location in real time? We’re yet to see!
